Alex Pogacean

Associate Portfolio Manager & Financial Planner RBC Wealth Management

Job Description

Your parents probably have dreams for your family, like sending you to University some day, maybe buying a cottage or taking more family vacations. I help families make those dreams happen!

I’m a financial planner and investment advisor. Think of me as a money coach who helps families figure out how to use their money wisely and make it grow.

The two main things I do:

Planning: I meet with your parents and grandparents to understand what matters most to them. Do they want to buy a house? Send you to university? Make sure you’re taken care of in the future? I help them create a plan to reach those goals and I also show them ways to keep more money by paying less in taxes.

Investing: Once I know what your family needs, I help put their money into things like stocks and bonds that grow over time. I choose investments carefully so your family actually reaches the goals we talked about.

Why this matters: Instead of just saving money in a regular bank account, I help your family’s money work harder and grow faster. It’s like planting seeds today so you can have a bigger garden tomorrow!

Career Story

High School: Building the Foundation

In high school, I discovered my passion for math, accounting, and business. I was especially curious about how the Canadian tax system works. With encouragement from my teachers, I started volunteering to help people file their tax returns. This was my first real taste of financial advisory work.

University: Gaining Expertise

I attended McMaster University and earned an Honours Bachelor of Commerce Degree with a Minor in Economics. Those four years were transformative. I specialized in Finance, which deepened my knowledge and helped me understand what kind of career I wanted to pursue.

Early Career: Growing in Wealth Management

After graduating in 2013, I joined Scotia Wealth Management as an Assistant with a Wealth Management team. Over the next 12 years, I grew steadily within the organization, taking on increasingly responsible roles and titles. This experience gave me a strong foundation in client relationships, portfolio management, and financial planning.

The Next Chapter: A New Opportunity

In August 2025, I decided it was time for a new challenge. I joined the Hamber Group at RBC Wealth Management as an Associate Portfolio Manager & Financial Planner. This role allows me to bring everything I’ve learned to a broader client base and been given the opportunity to grow my own business.

Professional Credentials

Today, I hold the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and Chartered Investment Manager (CIM®) designations. I’m also a licensed life insurance advisor, which means I can offer comprehensive financial guidance across all areas of my clients’ financial lives.
