Physiotherapist and Clinic Owner Waterdown Physiotherapy

Job Description

Physiotherapists provide assessment and treatment for individuals with injuries from sports, car accidents, work injuries or diseases such as arthritis. Many physiotherapists work in private clinics such as mine. Others work in hospitals or do home visits. Teaching appropriate exercises for rehabilitation is a big part of what we do. We also sometimes use machines such as ultrasound or other treatments including hands on therapy and acupuncture to aid in a person’s recovery.

Career Story

During high school I did a co-op placement in a Physiotherapy clinic which helped with my interest in the career. I attended McMaster University and did a 4 year degree (BSc) in Biology and Psychology. I applied to the Physiotherapy program, but was not accepted the first time. The second time applying I was accepted and I graduated 2 years later with a degree in Physiotherapy from McMaster (BHSc). It is now a master’s degree. I have taken many continuing education courses over the years including a certification in acupuncture.
