Amy Charlong
HR Business Partner Aecon ConstructionJob Description
I am a Human Resources professional for one of Canada’s largest construction companies. I manage and support people throughout their employment day to day. This involves everything that comes with their jobs without actually doing their jobs – For example: employee relations, employee changes, compensation and benefits, recruitment and talent management, training and development, and employee performance. I specialize in Utilities construction and the matrix groups that support our daily operations (finance, estimating, project management, purchasing, systems, fleet etc.)

Career Story
After high school I was accepted in the concurrent education program at Lakehead University. I
graduated from the 5 year program and started supply teaching for high schools. My teachables were geography and general science. After 4 years of supplying, I decided to take a year off and stumbled upon a contract receptionist position at Aecon Construction. This allowed me to save money to continue to pay down my student loans. After less than a year with Aecon, I was offered a full time permanent role and decided to return to school part time for human resources management studies offered through Mohawk College. I completed my HR studies and was selected to join Aecon’s HR team in an entry level position. Fast forward 5 years and with more and more exposure and learning, I am now in a senior position and a business partner supporting more than 400 employees across Canada.
