Career Story

I learned photography in my grade ten photography class. It ignited my love for the arts and was a medium that I felt allowed me to express my heartbeat and capture elements that could be used to encourage and inspire others.

At the same time I LOVED social sciences and writing as well. In highschool I didn’t know how to mesh those things together into a career and didn’t know I could actually do all those things in one job!

As time past I decided to pursue writing in university in Ottawa. I was accepted into the English teaching program at Ottawa U, and from there fell even deeper in love with writing. I also had the opportunity to explore loving social work too through electives I could take in my first year.

I then decided that I would major in social work and switched gears and went to Humber College and completed my social service worker diploma. During these years I always had a camera in my hand, documenting my journeys and enjoying life.

I started to discover that I didn’t have to choose what I loved more, people, photography or writing. I decided I was going to keep up with each of those things and figure out how to create a job that allowed me to do everything.

I decided to pursue my own photography business specializing in wedding and editorial photography. I then did freelance writing for wedding publications through my company.

Photography and social work went hand in hand. In this business you learn you need to know how to work with people and their personalities and capture their stories using your medium.

Getting to know people is the best part of my job as a photographer. Being a part of some of the most special times for my couples is so incredibly fulfilling.

So, all in all, I have had a very successful career doing what I love and not being locked down to one specific career path.

I shoot over 30+ weddings in a year and have had the privilege of being featured in numerous publications across the world.
